ADIEU

hello, good bye
two words that come
with great humility
hello sister moon
hello debbie
"the snow...alone in my car
i prayed
a knock at my window
it was my dad!"

hello diane
"i am most like my dad...i drive
the speed limit
chapstick by day
mentholatum before
i go to bed"

hello denise
"no more dancing
in the living room
you'll wear out
the carpet"

hello dawn
"his love for big band music
first swept up in his arms
later on his feet
we would dance"

hello adele
"how we appreciate
the close friendship,
influence in my
family's life
an added blessing for
also being our neighbor
he came to jordan's
baseball games"

hello brother moon
we've cried you a river
tears of joy
for a life well lived

tears of sadness
you will be missed
tears of comfort
in the legacy you have left
for eternal life that awaits
so
good-bye sir

good-bye friend
 good-bye grandpa
and great-grandpa too
good-bye dad
yes, we've cried you

a river...
a moon river
at that"

good-bye dear
and
good night ira gale moon
*ADIEU
*good-bye

a profound
moment for me
was the babe in arms
presumably a
 great
granddaughter
as family members
kissed brother moon
good-bye
with an outstretched hand
she waved
and spoke what she knew
"ABC, ABC, ABC"
just what someone might say
(with a limited vocabulary)
maybe she knew his
powerful influence
as an educator, teacher,
honorable man
